It’s branded as intelligent personality assessment. It has evolved from current personality psychometrics and reports to reinvent the process of measurement technology, and it certainly has improved and developed upon some of the other more mainstream psychometrics. Profile: Match 2 is a comprehensive and all round psychometric tool developed by Psychological Consultancy Ltd (PCL). In my recent workshop with them I learnt how to administer, score, and feedback the P:M 360 whilst learning about some of the benefits that it can add to both business and sport. I am going to try and summarise some of the days training here.
There are number of what I think quite nifty and useful features of this tool which makes it a little superior to some of the others on the market. The first is actually a free assessment that anyone trained on the tool can use. The Job Analysis Survey (JAS) allows clients to get to grips with what it is they are actually looking for. It takes away the guesswork that many employers use when developing job adverts, selection criteria, and development programs. It gets the information from the people that know the job best, the people doing the job.
The second is its uses in selection. Using the JAS above a number of competencies are selected (up to 10) and the program builds a specific psychometric test related to those competencies. Then we simply email the candidates with the instructions and sit back and wait for the data to come in. The reason this is quite useful is because of its specificity to each job role, it makes sense and provides consistent results related to the competencies we know makes effective employees in the job role you are recruiting for. Now this is where the tool gets really clever. It offers the opportunity to get an interview schedule supplement, which gives you as a hiring manager some ideas of questions to ask and areas to probe within the interview. Each interview supplement is bespoke to the candidate so you will get to know them in the most in-depth way you can, allowing you to make an well rounded and informed decision.
The third nifty feature is its uses in personal development. Again using the JAS we can find out what competencies are most regarded in your profession and we can analyse your team against those competencies. A bespoke and unique test is developed and administered to your employees. Now again this is where it gets really clever. The tool creates what it calls a ‘coaching supplement’ this is for psychologists’ eyes only but gives further depth and clarity to the actual results of the test. It allows a psychologist to develop a specific training or coaching plan for each individual and then help to implement it if you and I want.
The fourth nifty feature is the 360-degree feedback itself. Now I think this is genuinely clever. A truly 360 degree feedback tool, it is fully automated, deals with all of the communication, scores and reports the results when they are needed. It’s flexible allowing for raters to choose their assessors or as a team we can designate them to each candidate, there’s options for open-ended and extra questions if we need them, and the administrator handles all of the project management. A well- rounded and robust assessment to give you the greatest detail for reviews, appraisals and personal development.
The final feature with this tool called Match:Up. It’s based on psychological theory, and uses all of the information generated by the 360 feedback report on each of the individuals. This is the personal development portion of the test and gives a bespoke training scheme for individuals based upon their results. It creates the opportunity to improve the competencies that we identified in the JAS earlier on. Ultimately developing further self-awareness, better, and more motivated individuals.
